$250k Awarded to Amundsen High School Baseball & Softball!
On Wednesday May 3rd, Friends of Amundsen, Cubs Charities, Local Initiatives Support Corporation Chicago (LISC Chicago), celebrated with an on-field presentation of a $150,000 award. This now brings the total award up to $250,000 for Amundsen High School baseball and softball programs.
This represents an investment in the youth of our community, by supporting our local high schools and our community. Thanks to Cubs Charities Diamond Project, the Chicago Park District and LISC Chicago we are now able to expand opportunities and foster the love of baseball and softball.
The goal of Cubs Charities Diamond Project is to expand opportunities for children and teenagers to play baseball and softball, create or preserve green space and to foster a love of the game. Through the Diamond Project, Cubs Charities provides funds to non-profit, neighborhood-based organizations to support capital improvement projects that improve the quality, safety and accessibility of local baseball and softball fields or indoor training facilities with the technical assistance of Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Chicago.
“LISC Chicago’s mission is to connect neighborhoods to the resources they need to become stronger and healthier – and, support great neighborhood spaces like the baseball fields at Amundsen High School and Winnemac Park.
While Amundsen High School baseball and softball teams call Winnemac Park baseball fields their home fields, the park hosts a number of different baseball and softball programs spanning from mid-April through November. In addition to park programing, many area softball and baseball leagues including Welles Park Baseball use Winnemac Park diamonds for practice, engaging both youth and adults.
Since 2014, Cubs Charities Diamond Project has awarded nearly $1 million in grants to support 28 youth leagues and 18 capital improvement projects across Chicago.

FOA is made up of parents, teachers, alumni and community members helping Amundsen continue to be an outstanding high school of choice in Chicago.
